CV girls edge Mead to advance to regional play-in
Brooke Gallaway made 1 of 2 free throws with 28 seconds left and Central Valley held on to beat Mead 49-48 in a District 8 4A elimination game Saturday at University High School.
Jade Redmon, who led the Panthers with 19 points, had a chance to win it, but her turnaround jumper at the buzzer was off the mark.
The win was Central Valley’s third over Mead this season.
Mariah Cunningham scored 15 points and Madison Hovren added 13 for Central Valley (21-2).
The Bears advance to play in a regional play-in game on Tuesday. Mead (12-11) is finished for the season.
District 7 2A
Pullman 52, West Valley 22: Anna Guo scored 14 points and the Greyhounds (10-12) took control from the outset and claimed the third and final seed to the regional tournament with a win over the Eagles (7-16) at Central Valley High School.
Pullman forced 18 turnovers, won the rebounding battle 51-33 and held West Valley to 15 percent shooting from the field.
Kaitlin Moos had eight points and Cierra Paul chipped in seven points and eight rebounds for Pullman. The Eagles are finished for the season.
The 2A regional tournament starts Friday at Eastern Washington University.
1A subregional
Freeman 47, Chelan 30: Alyssa Maine scored 14 points and Molly McIntyre added seven points and 14 rebounds as the Scotties (24-1) topped the Goats in Chelan.
Freeman outrebounded Chelan 47-37 and led 34-15 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Scotties claimed the top seed to the regional tournament. Chelan is the second seed.
Okanogan 55, Colville 44: Kara Stags scored 28 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Indians (16-8) in Chelan.
Ashley Knight had 12 points and Tasha Luu added 10 for Colville, which saw its season come to an end.
District 7 2B
Northwest Christian 53, Colfax 45: Chanel Knight had 14 points and Maria Guske added 13 as the Crusaders (20-5) beat the Bulldogs (16-8) in a loser-out game at Mt. Spokane High School.
Alyssa Yates had 11 points and Treasure Farmer added eight rebounds and seven assists for NWC, which claimed the second and final seed to regional. Amelie Bruya led Colfax with 13 points.
District 7 1B
Columbia 51, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 48: Krista Colvin hit a 3-pointer with 1 second left to lift the Lions (24-1) past the Warriors (19-4) in the title game at Deer Park.
Colvin finished with 20 points and six assists and Elizabeth Larrew added 11 points for Columbia. Madeline Isaak had 15 points and Miranda Porterfield added 13 for ACH.
Columbia claimed the top seed to regionals and the Warriors are the second seed.
Cusick 50, Wellpinit 36: Andrea Heinen had 19 points, nine rebounds and five steals as the Panthers (16-8) claimed the third and final seed to regionals with a win over the Redskins (10-15) in Deer Park.
Nalene Andrews added 10 points for Cusick, which led 12 points at halftime. Kyra Antone tallied a team-high 12 points for Wellpinit, which is finished for the season.
District 9 1B
St. John-Endicott 50, Tekoa-Oakesdale 42 (OT): The Eagles (14-8) took control in overtime and beat the Nighthawks (15-8) in an elimination game in Endicott.
Gretchen Van Lith had 17 points and Sami Bailey added 12 for St. John-Endicott, which claimed the second and final seed to the regional tournament. Alex Overton led Tekoa-Oakesdale with 16 points.
