Obituary: Mckee, Marjorie Anne

Age 83

McKEE, Marjorie Anne
(Age 83)

Passed away quietly on the afternoon of February 8, 2012 while her husband of almost 60 years Walter Raymond McKee held her hand and with other loved ones at her side.

She was born on January 6, 1929 at Sacred Heart Hospital to Fred and Anne Storms with Dr. Robert Rotchford in attendance.

Marjorie spent the early part of her life in Chewelah, WA living with her grandparents Hubert and Mary Storms.

After returning to Spokane she attended St. Anthony’s grade school.

After grade school she went on to attend Marycliff High school graduating in 1947.

She went on to work at the Arcade Bakery and next the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company where through a mutual friend she met Walt McKee in April 1952 and after a whirlwind courtship they were married on November 3, 1952 in Davenport, WA.

This union brought three children into the world.

After a long and dedicated career she retired December 1st, 1983 from the phone company.

Following her retirement she and Walt enjoyed gardening, camping, and vacations from Disneyland to Washington DC and almost everywhere in between.

And most especially watching their grand children grow up.

During the summers she enjoyed being outdoors biking and going for walks around the neighborhood, and during the fall and winter months she loved to carry out her favorite holiday traditions, especially for Halloween and Christmas.

She was a wonderful, selfless, hard working and vibrant woman who was more often than not putting the needs of others before her own.

Marjorie was very passionate about many things, her love of home and family, cooking meals, her cats, reading, watching a little TV and especially classical piano music.

She was a big fan of Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff.

Despite increasing weakness in her hands during her later years she continued to study piano for many years with Ed Haugen and if she wasn’t playing her own piano at home hardly a night passed by where she was not falling asleep to one of her favorite piano CDs.

It was in the middle of January 2012 it was discovered that a very fast spreading cancer was detected that claimed her life.

She is survived by her husband Walter; sisters Donna and Jeanne; brothers Robert and Mike Storms; children David, Jim and Eileen.

And six grandchildren; Brian and Alicia Nam, Darren, Mark, Kelly and Holly Swearingen.

Preceding her in death were parents Fred and Anne Storms, brother Bill Storms, and sister Rita Oien.

She will be interred at the Eastern Washington’s Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake, WA where her husband of almost 60 years will be able to join her when that time comes.

Funeral Service will be held on February 22nd, 1:30p.m.

at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers you consider a memorial gift in Marjorie’s memory to Hospice of Spokane, South 121 Arthur Street, Spokane, WA 99202.
