Obituary: Thomas, David “Dave”

Age 41

THOMAS, David “Dave”

David “Dave” Thomas, of Coeur d’Alene, ID passed away suddenly on February 14, 2012, leaving behind a large and loving circle of family and close friends.

Born in Bellevue, WA on March 9, 1970, he was the youngest of four children.

Dave lived with his family in Hawaii, San Diego, CA, and Bellevue, WA before moving to Whidbey Island, WA, where he graduated from South Whidbey High School in 1988.

After Dave’s graduation from Eastern Washington University in 1992, he found success as a salesman.

In 1995, he began his career with MetLife, selling insurance policies to families in Washington and Idaho.

His intuitive business acumen and insurance knowledge eventually led him to want his own insurance brokerage, and in 2003, Insurance Northwest was born.

In 1995, Dave married Caryl (Phillips) Thomas.

They had three children and divorced in 2006.

Dave later married Holly Whitman in 2007.

Together, they owned and operated Insurance Northwest in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Dave had an incredible love for life.

He adored his children, and he loved spending his time with friends camping, boating, fishing and entertaining.

He hosted a number of grand parties at his home and loved nothing more than sharing a drink with the friends that mattered most to him.

He had an enormously giving personality and he asked for very little in return from those with whom he associated.

Dave is survived by Holly Whitman, of Tucson, Arizona; parents Ken and Judy Thomas of Port Ludlow, WA.

Siblings include Ken Thomas (Diana Thomas) of Kirkland, WA; Kimberly-Susan Brown (Tom Brown) of Fort Worth, TX; Jenifiir-Lourre Thomas of Eugene, OR.

Dave is also survived by his nephew Michael Thomas, of Sarasota, FL.

Dave’s biggest legacy lies in his children, Craig Thomas (11), Kaylee Thomas (9) and Kaci Thomas (7), who live with their mother Caryl Thomas in Post Falls, ID.

He was a dedicated father, son, brother and friend.

His presence in this world will certainly be missed, but his friendly and loving spirit will forever remain in the lives of his family and dear friends.

At Dave’s request, no formal services will be held.

Family and close friends met on Saturday, February 18th to share stories and offer consolation to one another on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, where Dave felt most at home.
