HAWKS-
KREMER,
Helen Louise
3-4-18/ 2-23-12
Helen passed away on February 23, 2012, peace-fully surrounded by loving, dedicated family.
Helen was born to Clinton and Louise Inman, March 4, 1918, in Wilbur, Idaho.
In those younger years her favorite pastime was trick horseback riding.
After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she went to work at the local Owl Drugstore managing a lunchette.
It was there she met and married her “hero” Vern Hawks in 1940.
While Vern was serving his country, Helen and son Douglas moved to Los Angeles where she worked at an aircraft plant building B-17s.
Throughout the years, she and Vern owned a grocery store in downtown Spokane, she worked as a dental receptionist in the Spokane Valley, they managed a large apartment complex, and owned a health food store in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Following Vern’s passing in 1982, Helen moved back to Spokane and helped her daughter raise her three children.
In 1998 she married Gordon Kremer.
Gordon passed away in 2004.
Helen loved to travel, taking several cruises throughout the years.
Ballroom dancing was another favorite activity as well as reading and playing cards.
When her sight was diminishing, she became an active member of the “Day Out for the Blind” organization.
She is survived by her children Douglas Hawks and Janet Hawks of Spokane and son Steven Hawks of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren and 11-great grandchildren; nephew Ken Hawk of Olympia, WA.
Those that knew her, even for a short time, will never forget her spunk and wittiness as well as the love for her family.
She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Cherrywood Assisted Living Home and Hospice of Spokane for their loving care.
Arrangements are being made by Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
A “Celebration of Life” will follow at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Day Out for the Blind, % Lilac Blind Foundation, Spokane Humane Society, or Hospice of Spokane.
