Memorial for Highway 2 crash victim set for Jan. 14

A memorial service for Faith Proctor, the 2010 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County, is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Proctor, 20, was killed in a New Year’s Day car crash that also killed two others.

The service, which is open to the public, will be held at 11 a.m. at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 806 W. Indiana Ave., according to the Boys & Girls Club.

The club has set up a memorial fund in Proctor’s name at Spokane Teachers Credit Union and will establish a scholarship in her honor, a news release said.

Proctor was a passenger in a car driven by Kacey EJ McIntyre, 19, of Spokane, when it crossed the centerline of U.S. Highway 2 near Reardan and collided with a car driven by Benito M. Flores, 66, of Coulee Dam, the Washington State Patrol said. Both McIntyre and Flores were also killed. Two other passengers in McIntyre’s car were injured.

Proctor was “a pillar of strength” who worked two part-time jobs while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average and volunteering in the community, the Boys & Girls Club said when the organization named her Youth of the Year.

Man sentenced to 13 years for distributing child porn

A Spokane man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 13 years in prison after he was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography.

Darrel W. Monzingo, 45, pleaded guilty this summer, after a Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered him sharing child pornography over the Internet.

The investigation led to Spokane, where the Spokane Police Department executed a search warrant on Dec. 16, 2010. Officers seized about three dozen items of digital equipment containing thousands of images of child pornography – including some images Monzingo took himself, Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Rice said.

Monzingo has been in federal custody since Jan. 20, 2011, and received a sentence of 161 months in federal prison.

Athol man pleads guilty to federal porn charge

An Athol, Idaho, man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a child pornography charge related to illicit material found during a search of his home in September 2010.

Samuel Ted Ussery, 50, faces up to five years in prison and three years of probation after pleading guilty to transportation of an obscene matter.

He is scheduled to be sentenced March 26 by Judge Edward Lodge in U.S. District Court in Coeur d’Alene.

An investigator with the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began investigating Ussery in July 2010 after discovering that a computer with an IP address belonging to him used file-sharing software to access child pornography.

A federal search warrant executed at Ussery’s home at 6203 E. Highway 54 revealed computer equipment with images of child pornography that had been deleted but were recovered, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
