Mead’s Pratt dominates

Cadie Pratt just missed a clean sweep in a Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet on Thursday night at Mead High School.

Pratt won all-around and finished first in the uneven bars – scoring 9.2 – first in the balance beam (9.2) and first in floor exercise (9.3) to power the Mead Panthers to a victory in a five-school meet.

Pratt’s only blemish was a second-place finish in the vault, with teammate and all-around runner-up Victoria Moyer claiming the victory in that event with a 9.325.

Mead finished with 170.025 points. University (163.5) was second, followed by Ferris (154.95), Central Valley (148.25) and North Central (135.55).

University’s Amy House and Tarah Chess placed third and fourth, respectively, in all-around.

Boys basketball

St. Maries 72, Sandpoint 61: Warren Joiner buried 14 of 19 shots from the floor and scored 28 to power the Lumberjacks (6-1) to a nonleague victory over the Bulldogs (3-10) in Sandpoint.

Rhett Ryle added 14 points for St. Maries. Jackson Olin topped Sandpoint with 16 points.

Moscow 54, Bonners Ferry 39: Dan McGurkin totaled 17 points and Derek Pennington scored 12 to lead the Bears (6-6) to a nonleague win over the Badgers (3-7) in Moscow.

Alex Awbrey paced BF with 11 points.

Valley Christian 77, Mansfield 45: Kolby Blew tossed in a game-high 17 points as the Panthers (11-1) overpowered the Kernels in Mansfield.

VC also had double-figure scoring from Craver Small (16), Nick Cox (15) and Bo Piersol (12).

Timberlake 62, Lakeland 52: Brian Cronnelly hit three 3-pointers on his way to 20 points and snagged five rebounds to carry the Tigers (8-4) to a nonleague win over the visiting Hawks (3-9).

Eric Cooper topped Lakeland with 16 points.

Girls basketball

Lakeside (ID) 41, Wallace 40: Tah-Wy-Ah Davis hit a basket with 3.6 seconds left to rally the Knights (3-5, 2-0) to a 41-40 victory over the visiting Miners (2-7, 0-2) in North Star League action in Plummer.

Davis finished with 16 points. Kenzie Dire led Wallace with 15 points.

Sandpoint 35, St. Maries 26: Maggie Kirscher totaled 18 points and nine rebounds to spark the Bulldogs (7-9) to nonleague win over the Lumberjacks (4-7) in St. Maries.

Sandpoint exploded for 18 points in the fourth quarter after scoring just 17 total points through three quarters.

Kaytrin Thaut accounted for half of her team’s offense with 13 points.

Wrestling

East Valley 61, West Valley 13: The Knights opened the match with four consecutive pins and breezed to a win over the visiting Eagles in Great Northern League action at EV.

Cody Chapman started the Knights off and running with a fall in the 138-pound class. Chance Blackburn (145), Tanner Bauman (152) and Nick Gonzalez (160) followed with pins for EV.

Medical Lake 47, Pullman 21: The Cardinals tallied four pins and picked up five wins by forfeit to knock off the visiting Greyhounds in the GNL.
