In brief: Ghost Ryderz holding food drive

LIBERTY LAKE – Ghost Ryderz Extreme MC will hold its second annual winter food drive, to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank, today at Allsport, 19505 E. Broadway Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors who donate a nonperishable food item will receive 5 percent off any item in the store, excluding sale items. For more information, call (509) 926-5044.

Fire Station 3 plans open house

LIBERTY LAKE – The Spokane Valley Fire Department will host an open house at Station 3 at 2218 N. Harvard Road in Liberty Lake from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan.28. The department wants help giving Station 3 a name to make it more identifiable. Some stations, such as the Greenacres Station and the Otis Orchards Station, have already been renamed.

During the open house visitors will be able to talk with the on-duty crew, take a tour of the building and have refreshments. Mako the arson dog will also be there. Name suggestions will be collected and the fire commissioners will select a name at a later date.

Meeting on plans for Sullivan Bridge

SPOKANE VALLEY – A public meeting to review the preliminary design of the new Sullivan Bridge will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. The west bridge that carries southbound traffic is deteriorating and the city is working to get grants to pay for the estimated $19.7 million cost to replace it. Public Works engineers will be on hand to go over preliminary design plans and get input from the community on minimizing impacts and how best to route traffic during construction.

Currently the west bridge is closed for temporary repairs that should allow the weight restrictions imposed last year to be lifted. The repairs are expected to be complete at the end of February.

Theater group needs help moving

SPOKANE VALLEY – Theater Arts for Children is moving from its longtime Broadway Avenue location today.

The theater group is in need of teenage and adult volunteers to help them pack up and move to its home, 2114 N. Pines Road, Suite 3S. To join the fun, stop by the current location, 10814 E. Broadway Ave., beginning at 10 a.m.
