Area roundup: Bueno good for WSU track
Washington State sophomore Kelsey Bueno took second place in the pole vault on the final day of competition at the University of New Mexico Cherry and Silver Indoor Track and Field Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday.
Bueno posted a lifetime-best of 12 feet, 3 1/2 inches – the ninth-best mark in school history.
WSU’s Joe Bartlett took second in the shot put with a toss of 55-10 1/4. The Cougars’ men’s 1,600-meter relay team (J Hopkins, Jacob Sealby, Brandon Dawson and Rashaun Dawson) took second in 3 minutes, 18.03 seconds.
Swimming
Idaho’s Paige Hunt broke the 17-year-old school record in the 3-meter dive in the Vandals’ 171-125 loss to New Mexico State in a Western Athletic Conference dual in Las Cruces, N.M.
Hunt won the event with a score of 292.43.
• Washington State won eight events and beat host Seattle 59-35. The Cougars were led by freshman Haley Anderson and senior Emma Neely. Anderson took first place in the 1,000 freestyle in 10 minutes, 34.53 seconds. Anderson won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.07.
