Cancer Resource Centers seek more volunteers

SPOKANE COUNTY – Volunteers are needed for the American Cancer Society’s Spokane Cancer Resource Centers. The Cancer Resource Centers are a partnership between the American Cancer Society and Deaconess Hospital/Rockwood Health Systems, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

Volunteers are not trained medical personnel, but they have access to up-to-date cancer information and free programs and services available in this area. They are also trained to navigate the society’s website and community resource database. Those wishing to volunteer for the Cancer Resource Centers should have some basic computer skills or the ability to learn, but most of all they should be compassionate to the needs of the patients. Former cancer patients are encouraged to apply.

For information on how to volunteer, call Bonnie Abernethy at (509) 242-8292 or email bonnie.abernethy@ cancer.org.
