In brief: CV student places at national FBLA event
LIBERTY LAKE – David Yuen, a sophomore at Central Valley High School, placed third at the National Future Business Leaders of America Conference in San Antonio.
This was Yuen’s second visit to the national conference. His category was business law.
He earned a cash prize and has a goal of competing at the national level all four years of high school.
“He continues to amaze with his unending commitment to hard work and dedication,” said FBLA advisor Duane Barnhart in a news release. “David genuinely inspires and motivates other students to experience and succeed in FBLA.”
Other local chapters that competed in the conference include East Valley, Davenport, Reardan, Odessa, Freeman and Cheney high schools.
Food bank selects summer hours
FAIRFIELD/ROCKFORD – The hours for the North Palouse Community Food Bank in Fairfield have been announced for July and August. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25. It will also be open 4 to 6 p.m. on July 19 and Aug. 16.
The food bank is supported entirely by community donations and serves the towns of Fairfield, Rockford, Latah and Waverly. It is located behind the Fairfield Fire Station on North Railroad Street. Those with emergency food needs can call (509) 283-4250.
Find hot rods, eating contest at Ron’s
SPOKANE VALLEY – Ron’s Drive Inn will host its second annual hot rod show and burger eating contest today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main event will begin at 2 p.m. and contestants will get a limited edition T-shirt and as many burgers as they can eat in five minutes. Cash and prizes will be awarded to the top winners.
The cost to participate in the burger eating contest is $30 and proceeds benefit Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels.
In addition to the car show, Great Clips will be offering free buzz cuts. The restaurant is at 12502 E. Sprague Ave.
