Resigned Portland Trail Blazers president Larry Miller resigned on Saturday. The team says he is leaving to take a position with another Portland-area business. Miller was president of the Blazers the past five years. He helped oversee the team’s hiring of Neil Olshey as general manager early last month. During Miller’s tenure, the Blazers returned to the postseason for the first time in six seasons, making three straight trips to the NBA playoffs from 2009-2011.

Dismissed Ohio State coach Urban Meyer dismissed senior linebacker Storm Klein from the football team following his arrest on domestic violence and assault charges. Klein pleaded not guilty to the charges after being arrested by Columbus police on Friday. A message seeking comment was left Saturday. Meyer said in a statement that the charges against Klein “violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program.”

Withdrew The Phoenix Suns withdrew their qualifying offer to Aaron Brooks, making the point guard an unrestricted free agent. Brooks was acquired from the Houston Rockets at the 2011 trade deadline and appeared in 25 games with Phoenix, averaging 9.6 points, 4.2 assists and 18.9 minutes. He played in China last season.

Announced Tennis player Victoria Azarenka will take over the No. 1 ranking from Maria Sharapova next week after Agnieszka Radwanska failed to win the Wimbledon title. Azarenka will return to No. 1 when the rankings are released Monday, having been overtaken by Sharapova last month following the Russian’s win at the French Open. Radwanska will be No. 2.
