Obituary: Salis, Warren Dee

Age 93

SALLIS, Warren Dee
September 4, 1918 - May 25, 2012

Warren Dee Sallis went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 25, 2012.

Born on September 4, 1918 (Scott, AR) to Wiley and Hattie Sallis.

He was the fourth of eight children.

At an early age, Warren worked in the cotton fields and took care of livestock on the family farm.

During the Depression, at 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, building logging roads and planting trees in the Coeur d’Alene area.

In 1940 Warren met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Gaisbauer in Little Rock, AR and married in 1942.

During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps, served in Cuba, North Africa and Italy as a Crew Chief working on B-24’s.

After the war, he worked as a painter and fireman in Little Rock.

In 1950 he re-entered the Air Force, working in the fire department and as a Crew Chief working on B-52’s.

Warren then served during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars.

He loved to hunt, fish and golf.

As a member of the Air Force SAC golf team, Warren traveled around the country for various tournaments.

After 26 years of service, he retired in Spokane, WA.

Warren and Liz joined the Audubon Park UMC and were active in the church, the Lay Witness Mission and the Walk to Emmaus.

Warren was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2004.

Warren leaves behind his sister Ann Kline, Little Rock, AR; sister-in-law Bertha Turner, Little Rock, AR; daughter Diane Cramer (Frank); son Michael Sallis (Colene); daughter Regina Timm (Rockne); grandchildren: Theresa Enright, Ron Cramer, Michael Cramer, Shannon Timm-Mendoza, Kristin Sallis, Rondi Timm and Sean Sallis and 12 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and their families who all miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Audubon Park UMC on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:30 AM.
