In brief: Speed limit lowered near Valley Mission Park
SPOKANE VALLEY – The speed limit along East Mission Avenue and Bowdish Road near Valley Mission Park has been lowered to 20 mph for the summer. Drivers should watch for pedestrians and bicyclists in the area and near other city parks.
The speed limit is lowered each summer to make the area safer for children and families using the park and Splashdown Waterpark.

First Tee event June 16 at River Park Square
RIVERSIDE – River Park Square will host a First Tee of the Inland Northwest Golf Demo Day on June 16, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The family event will feature local PGA professionals offering golf tips. Adults can test the latest equipment, and coaches from First Tee will have golf games for kids. There will also be a raffle for River Park Square prizes.
First Tee is a Spokane organization that promotes youth awareness of golf. The group uses golf to teach sportsmanship, confidence, integrity, respect, courtesy and honesty.

Free Medicare information programs offered
BROWNE’S ADDITION/SPOKANE VALLEY – The Consumer Protection Program of the Office of Insurance Commissioner’s State Health Insurance Benefits Advisors will offer two free workshops for local residents who are about to turn 65 or have turned 65 with questions about Medicare.
The program will cover the basics of Medicare and what options are available.
The first workshop will be June 26 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce St.; the second workshop will be June 29 at the Argonne Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road. Both workshops are 1 to 3 p.m.
The workshops are free and open to the public, but registration is requested.

Mobile food bank at Millwood church Friday
Millwood – Millwood Community Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will welcome the Second Harvest Mobile Food Bank Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Every month, the mobile food bank serves almost 200 families at the church. Last month 8,793 pounds of food were distributed to families.
The food is for anyone in need of assistance. No appointment or documentation is needed, but you must be present to receive the food. Recipients are encouraged to bring a box.
