Washington lawmaker wants liquor prices displayed

Associated Press
SEATTLE — A Washington state lawmaker says he’ll introduce legislation to require stores selling liquor to post the full price, including taxes, on the display shelves. Rep. Gerry Pollett of Seattle says he’s heard a lot of complaints about unpleasant surprises at the checkout stand, where taxes are added. Since privatization took effect Friday stores must add a 20.5 percent sales tax and $3.77 per liter spirits tax. Pollett told The Seattle Times people shouldn’t have to bring a calculator to comparison shop for liquor.
