Age 88


FISHBURN, Ruth Alma

Ruth passed away peacefully at The Gardens on University on June 16, 2012.

Born October 14, 1923 in Portsmouth, Ohio to George and Mable Holmes.

She married Charles G. Fishburn on November 2, 1940.

They lived in Spokane since 1945.

Ruth was a charter member of Mary Queen Parish where she taught CCD and altar boys for many years.

Ruth also served as a member of the Altar Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

She was an award winning manager of the catalog department at Montgomery Ward and a beloved nursery supervisor at St. Anne’s Children’s Home where she worked through retirement concurrently.

Ruth was a generous benefactor to multiple worthy charitable causes.

One of her most treasured accomplishments was providing 12 years of Catholic education to each of her children.
Ruth was preceded in death by Charles, her loving husband of 48 years, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Charles (Patti) Fishburn, Bill (Rose) Fishburn, Sr. Ruth Marie Fishburn, Katie (Ted) St. Hilaire, Paul (Raila) Fishburn, Irene (Ken) Cleveland, Jack Fishburn, Ralph (Karen) Fishburn, Terri (Bill) Vilwock, Jim Fishburn, Rosemary Earp and Margaret Gardner.

There are 36 grandchildren and 47 great- grandchildren with more expected.
Ruth was dearly loved by her family and a multitude of friends.

She will be sorely missed.

The Vigil Service will be held Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 3423 E. Carlisle.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Franciscan Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
