Obituary: Shaver, Dennis Lynn
Age 70
(Age 70)
Beloved husband, father and son, was called to his heavenly home Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Care N Comfort Adult Family Home in Spokane, WA.
He had been diagnosed with brain and bone cancer, and he fought the battle to the very end with courage and the support of his family and friends.
He was a Spokane native born to Ruth and Eldon Shaver on January 28, 1942.
Dennis was a 1960 graduate of Shadle Park High School and later enlisted in the Navy.
After serving his time in the Navy working on maps, he was hired at WWP/Avista as a design draftsman and later became a member of the GIS team.
He retired after 48 years and 2 months of dedicated service, being the longest active employee in the history of WWP/Avista.
Dennis was known throughout the company as AKA: “Mr. Map,” due to his extensive knowledge of the company’s archived maps.
Throughout his lifetime, he was an avid stamp collector.
His time spent with his philatelic endeavors was truly a labor of love; and to the torment of everyone else!
He was a true devoted fan of Mopar cars through and through.
Often one would find him reminiscing about good friends and old times.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Eldon M. Shaver; and a brother, Richard E. Shaver.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jane (Storro) Shaver; two sons: Jeff L. (LeAndra) and Jonathan S. Shaver, of Spokane, WA; two very special grandsons: Jesse and Dylan Shaver, of Spokane, WA; his mother: Ruth Shaver, of Spokane, WA; a brother: David Shaver (Pam), of Spokane, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
Dennis will be remembered for his wonderful smile, and his kindness and generosity he showed to others.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held on Friday, June 22 at 2:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, N. 211 Government Way, Spokane, WA.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call at the Heritage Funeral Home prior to the service for viewing on Wednesday, June 20 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Thursday, June 21 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Care N Comfort Adult Family Home and all the Hospice personnel who were involved in Dennis’s care.
