Collision downtown sends three to hospital

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 3rd and Madison briefly blocked traffic and sent three people to Deaconess Hospital Friday afternoon. Two of the three people involved left the scene in stable condition but the third may have suffered potentially serious injuries, said Brian Schaeffer, a Spokane Fire Department spokesman. The collision involved two people in a Pontiac Grand Am and one person in a GM Jimmy. Witnesses said the Grand Am was traveling south on Madison as the Jimmy was headed east on 3rd when the collision occurred. Emergency responders had to cut the passenger door off the Pontiac to get to an elderly woman inside, Schaeffer said. The woman was rushed to the hospital.
