Temporary workers sought at job fairs
Spokane County will host two job fairs in July to hire more than 200 temporary workers for the next Spokane County Interstate Fair.
Applicants must come in person to either the July 18 session, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., or a session on July 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Both sessions are at the Fair and Expo Center, Havana Street and Broadway Avenue.
Jobs being filled include ticket takers, maintenance crews, janitors and barn and livestock clerks. All jobs pay $9.04, the minimum wage, according to a county spokesperson.
Applicants need to bring two sources of government-provided identification, a news release noted.
The fair runs Sept. 7-16.

Shift in leadership for major Boeing unit
A former aircraft mechanic who rose to become Boeing’s top salesman was named on Tuesday to run the company’s commercial airplane unit.
Raymond L. Conner is taking over for Jim Albaugh, who is retiring at 62, earlier than some industry watchers had expected.
Albaugh ran Boeing’s defense business until almost three years ago, when CEO Jim McNerney moved him over to run the commercial airplanes business.
Conner, 57, joined Boeing in 1977 as a mechanic for its 727 jetliner. Over the years, he has run Boeing’s 777 and 747 programs, and he ran Boeing’s sales in the Americas from 2003 to 2007. He has led the commercial airplane unit’s sales, services, and marketing efforts from Aug. 2010 until the announcement on Tuesday.
Facebook switches which email displayed
NEW YORK – In yet another change that upset users, Facebook has replaced the email addresses users chose to display on their profile pages with (at)facebook.com addresses.
Previously, users may have displayed their personal yahoo.com or gmail.com address to let people know how to contact them outside of Facebook. Now, Facebook has hidden those addresses and put a Facebook email listing in its place.
The changes raised users’ suspicions. By hiding other email addresses Facebook can keep its already-captive audience even more captive. Sending an email to a Facebook.com address will land the email in the messages section of a user’s Facebook profile. The more people use Facebook to communicate, the more the company can target ads based on the conversations they have on its platform.
In a statement, Facebook said it is giving users Facebook.com email addresses “because we find that many users find it useful to connect with each other, but using the Facebook email is completely up to you.” It added that the email address people use to log in to Facebook or receive notifications won’t change.
Users who are bothered by the change can reset their profile. Facebook didn’t delete the previously displayed email addresses.
