Spokane passed a new traffic ordinance in an attempt to curb the “speed mania” among auto drivers.
The new law called for $100 fines for speeders, since the former $25 fine did “not hold enough terror” for drivers.
The city speed limit remained unchanged: 20 miles per hour.
From the theft beat: A 19-year-old assistant window trimmer at the Whitehouse department store was arrested for theft when they found him sneaking away with a whole package of goods from the store.
He was tying up a parcel containing silk hosiery, dozens of silk scarves, gloves, handkerchiefs and perfume. It totaled $310 in luxury goods.
When asked by police what he was going to do with all of this plunder, he said he was going to give it to a sweetheart.
All of that for one sweetheart? No. He had multiple sweethearts.
