Charlize Theron adopts son, Jackson

Actress Charlize Theron is a mother: The actress has adopted a child.

In a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday, Theron’s publicist said the actress is a “proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson.”

No more details were provided.

Theron is from South Africa. This is the actress’s first child.

The 36-year-old won an Academy Award for her role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003’s “Monster.” She next stars as an evil queen in “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Third horse death ends ‘Luck’ on HBO

HBO cancelled horse racing series “Luck” on Wednesday, a day after a third horse died during the production of the series that starred Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte.

The decision was made along with executive producers David Milch and Michael Mann, HBO said in a statement. It followed a call made Tuesday by the American Humane Association to halt filming with horses until a comprehensive investigation into this week’s accident could be completed.

The series looked at racing’s seedier side, with Hoffman playing a crime kingpin who’s scheming to gain control of a racetrack and introduce casino gambling.

During filming in 2010 and 2011, two horses were hurt during racing scenes and euthanized. Tuesday’s death came amid production for the show’s second season.

JonBenet Ramsey’s father speaks out

JonBenet Ramsey’s father, John Ramsey, has finally acknowledged what many Americans have long wanted to hear: He regrets showcasing his daughter in beauty pageants and parades. He also suggests that putting the girl front-and-center in the public eye might have contributed to the 6-year-old’s killing.

“We were so naive,” he told ABC. “I now believe with all my heart that it’s not a good idea to put your child on public display.” Ramsey is promoting his new book, “The Other Side of Suffering: The Father of JonBenet Ramsey Tells the Story of His Journey from Grief to Grace,” about his struggle to recover from the death of his daughter.

JonBenet Ramsey died Dec. 26, 1996. John and Patsy Ramsey have been officially cleared of any wrongdoing in their daughter’s death, which remains unsolved.
