Playoff birdie earns Roller a victory
Andrew Roller collected a birdie on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to win the Pacific Invitational men’s golf tournament that wound up Sunday at The Reserves Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha, Ore.
Roller, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, had tied for first at 2-over 146 after 36 holes before earning his third career win for the Sasquatch. Teammate Dylan Maine tied for fouth at 4-over 148.
CCS was second by two strokes to Linfield, 599-601.
Softball
A pair of five-inning wins – 12-0 and 15-4 – in a nonleague doubleheader at Cal Bakersfield on Monday ran Washington’s record to 29-1.
Bryna Walker and Kasey Stanchek combined on a one-hit shutout in the opener, Kylee Lahners went 4 for 4 and drove in four runs and Kaitlin Inglesby hit a three-run home run to highlight a 16-hit Huskies’ assault in the second game.
Fifteen Huskies contributed hits, seven of the two-game total of 28 for extra bases, and 12 scored runs.
Tennis
Washington State senior Elisabeth Fournier, who won both her singles matches to help the Cougars post upsets of No. 26 Arizona and No. 27 Arizona State, was named the Pac-12 women’s player of the week. In running her season record to 25-5, Fournier posted 6-2, 6-0 and 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 wins as the Cougars posted back-to-back wins over Top 30 teams for the first time. It was WSU’s first win over ASU.
