Seahawks sign offensive lineman Omiyale

Frank Omiyale has started at right tackle, left guard and left tackle over the previous three seasons in Chicago. That versatility is a big reason why Seattle will sign him after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with the 29-year-old offensive lineman.

Omiyale was released by the Bears earlier this month.

Seattle visited with Omiyale before free agency actually began.

He reached an agreement with the Seahawks on Wednesday, after Jarriel King officially cleared waivers.

King was one of Seattle’s backup offensive linemen throughout last season. He was let go after he was arrested last month and charged with a sex crime in South Carolina, and did not inform the team of the incident. Omiyale was drafted by the Falcons in the fifth round in 2005 and spent two seasons with Atlanta.

One of those years, he played for Tom Cable, now Seattle’s offensive line coach.

Omiyale, 29, is 6-foot-4 and weighs 315 pounds.

Note

Defensive end Dave Tollefson was expected to arrive in Seattle today for a free-agent visit that will extend into Friday. Tollefson, 29, was a backup with the New York Giants and had a career-high five sacks last season. He was a seventh-round choice of the Green Bay Packers in 2006.
