Alderman’s no-hitter gives Cheney district title
Jeremy Alderman fired a no-hitter and Drew Henry scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth inning as Cheney held on to beat East Valley 1-0 in the District 7 2A title game Saturday at Clarkston.
Alderman pitched all eight innings and struck out nine batters.
J.T. Phelan did everything he could to keep the Knights in the game. Phelan struck out nine and allowed two hits and no runs in seven innings.
With the win, the Blackhawks (16-7) earned the top seed to next weekend’s regional tournament.
East Valley (14-6) is the second seed.
Clarkston 10, West Valley 2: The Bantams scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised past the Eagles in an elimination game at Clarkston.
Beau Magnuson had two hits, including a double, to lead Clarkston. Harry Wells hit a solo home run for WV (14-9), which was eliminated.
Clarkston (16-6) claimed the third and final regional seed.
District 7 1A
Chewelah 13, Lakeside 4: Cordell Bean had three hits, including a home run, and Caleb Wiebe pitched the complete game as the Cougars (11-7) claimed the top seed to the bi-district playoffs with a rout of the host Eagles (11-6) at Nine Mile Falls.
The Cougars scored five runs in the second inning and led 10-3 after the fourth.
The Eagles secured the No. 2 seed to bi-districts.
Colville 7, Newport 4: The Indians (10-7) put up four runs in the third and held on to beat the Grizzlies (8-11) at Nine Mile Falls to claim the third and final seed to the bi-district playoffs.
Newport, which fell 4-2 to Lakeside earlier in the day, was eliminated.
Boys soccer
Sunnyside Christian beat University (8-5) 5-4 in overtime in a 3A regional game at University. The loss ends the Titans’ season.
District 7 2A
Pullman 2, East Valley 1: Matt Konkel broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 85th minute, giving the Greyhounds (11-4) a win over the Knights (8-4) at East Valley.
With the win, Pullman secured a spot in the regional tournament.
Konkel opened the scoring for the Greyhounds with a goal in the 15th minute.
The Knights’ Adam Talley responded in the 50th minute with an unassisted goal to knot the match at 1.
Next up for Pullman is the district title match against Cheney on Wednesday at Gonzaga Prep. East Valley will play West Valley on Wednesday at G-Prep for the third and final seed to regionals.
Cheney 1, West Valley 0: Forester Seipp scored off an assist from Trevan Estrelledo in the 48th minute and the Blackhawks (16-0) held on to beat the visiting Eagles (9-8).
Cheney had an 18-9 advantage in shots.
District 6/7 1A
Okanogan 2, Lakeside 1: Jason Morales-Perez scored in the 25th minute and the Bulldogs edged the host Eagles (11-6) at Nine Mile Falls.
Lakeside’s Nick Broderious put the Eagles ahead early with a 12th-minute goal, but Okanogan responded 9 minutes later to tie it up before the winner.
The loss ended the Eagles’ season.
