Bolligar in third at Pac-12 Multi-events

Washington State’s Michael Bolligar is in third place after Saturday’s opening day of the Pac-12 Conference Multi-events Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Bolligar had season bests in the shot put (37 feet, 3 1/4 inches), high jump (6-8) and 400-meter dash (50.31 seconds).

Shaquana Logan leads the Cougars women in the heptathlon. She is in 12th place after the first day. She reached a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 32-2 3/4 inches.Action continues today, starting at 11 a.m.

• Whitworth’s Carter Comito won the discus and shot put to lead the Pirates at the Vandal Jamboree in Moscow, Idaho.

Comito tossed the discus 185-2 and the shot put 54-9 1/2.

Softball

Community Colleges of Spokane (20-17, 13-11) swept Yakima Valley (14-22, 5-19) in an NWAACC doubleheader at Spokane Falls Community College.

Amber James’ RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Sasquatch a 3-2 win in the opener.

In the second game, Tiffany Joyce had three hits and two RBIs and Lindsey Walchli struck out five in seven innings as CCS won 7-2.

• No. 19 Stanford (35-16, 8-12) scored an unearned run in the fourth inning and held on to beat No. 14 Washington (36-16, 7-15) 1-0 in the second game of a three-game Pac-12 Conference series in Stanford, Calif.

Rowing

The Gonzaga women’s finished second in the varsity 8-plus race at the Windermere Cup/Opening Day Regatta on Montlake Cut in Seattle.

The Bulldogs also took third place in the second varsity 8-plus race, finishing behind Washington and Otago.

Ultimate fighting

Spokane’s Michael Chiesa will take on Justin Lawrence on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Ultimate Fighter, which airs on FX.
