Obituary: May, Shari Marie

Age 70

MAY, Shari Marie
(1941 - 2012)

Shari Marie May, 70 years of age, passed away peacefully on April 28 at Hospice of Spokane in Spokane, WA following a brief illness.

Shari was born November 18, 1941 to Bertha and Leonard Sutton in Pocatello, Idaho.

Shari spent her early years in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1960.

In addition to raising a family, Shari worked many interesting jobs in her career, including as a draftsman and cartographer for the state of Nevada, for Weyerhauser in Klamath Falls, Oregon and for several years, the state of Louisiana.

She married the love of her life, Joe May, appropriately, on “May Day” (May 1) 31 years ago.

Joe and Shari have made their home in the Spokane area since 1996.

Always an artist at heart, Shari became an accomplished photographer and fine artist.

She worked in many mediums, but she is best known for her work in pastels and water colors.

Shari was signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society as well as the Pastel Society of America.

Her work has appeared in galleries and juried shows nationwide, including in New Orleans and New York.

For the last 25 years of her life, Shari passionately dedicated herself to her art and created hundreds of amazing paintings.

Friends and family will miss Shari’s quick wit, her kind and generous spirit, her artistic sensibilities, her joie de vive, and above all, the grace she exhibited in the face of any situation.

Shari is survived by her husband Joe May of Spokane; two daughters, Eleanor (John) Moreaux of Las Vegas Nevada and Connie (Richard) Peacock of Grandview Washington; four brothers, Jim Lonchar of Spokane, Mickey Lonchar of Spokane, Ken Lonchar of Fremont, California, and Bart Lonchar of Portland, Oregon; and four grandchildren.

At Shari’s request, no celebration of her life is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Spokane, 367 E. 7th Ave., Spokane WA 99202.
