Obituary: Bergman, Arlene M.

Age 91

BERGMAN,
Arlene M.

Arlene passed away on May 6, 2012 at the age of 91.

She was born on April 18, 1921 in Grinnell, Iowa, where she grew up.

She married her husband of 68 years, Kermit Bergman, on August 5, 1939.

In 1952, at the end of World War II, she and her husband, Kermit moved to the Spokane Valley.

The first house they lived in was built by her husband and still stands on the South Hill.

Arlene lovingly raised two sons, James “Jim” and Thomas “Tom”.

Arlene and Kermit spent their early retirement years traveling in their RV and golfing on courses all along the West Coast.

Arlene enjoyed ceramics and getting together with her girlfriends to play cards.

She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Grandma Arlene’s apple pie will be sorely missed!

Her favorite activity, though, was simply spending time with her husband, Kermit.

They were a devoted and sincere pair and an inspiration to many.

Arlene was a dedicated mother and grandmother, known for her kindness and willingness to help anyone.

She truly loved having her family and friends around her.

She valued family and friends and was adored by all those who were lucky enough to know her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kermit; her brothers, Walter, Howard and Dale May; and sister, Pauline Layton.

Arlene is survived by both her sons, Jim (Donna) Bergman of Cheney, WA and Tom (Vicki) Bergman of Wasilla, AK; and her seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

A small graveside service will be held Thursday, May 10th at 1pm at Pines Cemetery, 1402 S. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA.

A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held at a later date.

Remembrances can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
