Whitworth golfer Guthrie surges
Whitworth junior golfer Emily Guthrie shot a 4-over 76 Wednesday in the second round of the NCAA Division III championships at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.
Guthrie, who shot an 80 in Tuesday’s first round, is now tied for 16th place overall in a field consisting of 101 players. She is seven strokes behind leader Catherine Wager of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Track and field
Idaho senior Andrew Blaser won his second-straight title in the men’s decathlon at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Moscow, Idaho.
Blaser won seven of the 10 events during the two-day meet.
Idaho freshman Johanna Hocketstaller took second place in the women’s heptathlon.
• Eastern Washington’s Erica Chaney, competing unattached, won the discus (164 feet, 7 inches) and shot put (46-10 3/4) at the Sasquatch Carnival meet at Spokane Falls Community College.
Baseball
Community Colleges of Spokane (18-25, 10-16) swept Blue Mountain (9-33, 4-22) in an NWAACC Conference doubleheader in Pendleton, Ore. The Sasquatch won both games 4-2.
In the opener, Dylan Boe hit a two-run single in the top of the 11th inning to give CCS the win.
Arena football
The Spokane Shock placed offensive lineman Palauni Ma’Sun and defensive tackle Jonathan Williams on the injured reserved list.
Linebacker Levi Madarieta and defensive linemen Mike Alston and Chris Tucker were added to the roster.
