Advent Lutheran plans Mother’s Day brunch
The congregation of Advent Lutheran Church will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday by hosting a brunch beginning at 9:15 a.m. The buffet-style meal will include Belgian waffles, breakfast meats and egg casseroles. There will also be raffles and themed baskets for a silent auction.
The children of the church’s child care center will perform a Mother’s Day program during the 9:15 a.m. worship service. A second service will follow the brunch at 11 a.m.

Evangelist events
Evangelist Hal Hightower will speak during the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday at Bible Baptist Church, 11111 E. 16th Ave. Hightower will also speak at 6 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Baptist concert
The New Song choir from California Baptist University will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at East Valley Baptist Church, 14516 E. Wellesley Ave. The 92-member choir will perform a variety of styles of music.
High school juniors and seniors are invited to stay after the concert for auditions for music scholarships at California Baptist.

Freethought Society
The Inland Northwest Freethought Society will meet at 2 p.m. today to discuss the erosion of the separation of church and state. The meeting will be at Shari’s at 320 N. Sullivan Road.
The society describes itself as a “social club dedicated to the advancement of debate based on reasoned evidence, free from arguments founded on authority.”
Bake sale
A bake sale will be held after the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
