Suspended Seattle Sounders defender Zach Scott has been suspended for one game and fined after a hard tackle on FC Dallas midfielder Fabian Castillo. Scott’s suspension was handed down on Friday. He will serve his punishment today when the Sounders face Real Salt Lake with first place in the Western Conference at stake. Scott was given a yellow card for his hard tackle on Castillo near the sideline in the 75th minute of Seattle’s 2-0 win on Wednesday night. Signed The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a one-year contract to sign free-agent quarterback Vince Young, providing them an established backup and a bona fide threat in their wildcat formations.

• New Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles signed a seven-year contract that pays him a salary of $1.4 million that increases annually to $2.15 million by 2018-19. Miles’ contract includes incentives that pay him bonuses of $75,000 if the Cornhuskers win 20 games in a season, $100,000 if they win a Big Ten regular-season or tournament title and $150,000 if they make the NCAA tournament.

Agreed The Texas-Oklahoma rivalry football game will remain at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas through 2020. Dismissed A judge threw out a defamation lawsuit brought against Syracuse University and men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim by two men who said the Hall of Fame coach slandered them when he said their accusations of sexual abuse against former associate head coach Bernie Fine were driven by greed. Two former team ball boys, Bobby Davis and Michael Lang, accused Fine of sexually abusing them more than 20 years ago.

Elected George Mason has elected to stay in the Colonial Athletic Association. The school in Fairfax, Va., one of three league basketball powers that acknowledged considering a change in conference affiliation, announced that staying put is in its best interests. Virginia Commonwealth and Old Dominion also have acknowledged that they are studying their conference affiliations.

Died Hall of Fame junior welterweight boxer Eddie Perkins, a two-time champion who fought in more than 20 countries, has died. He was 75. Perkins, who suffered from dementia and diabetes, died at home in the arms of his son Lawrence on Thursday night, according to the family.
