Pouttu aims for title No. 3

Kellogg High junior Kaceelyn Pouttu will bid for her third straight Idaho 3A state golf title when the two-day tournament begins today at Preston Golf Club. Pouttu won by 25 shots last year and by nine shots two years ago.

The Wildcats’ girls and boys teams qualified as district champions. St. Maries’ boys also earned a state berth.

In 5A, the Coeur d’Alene boys, third a year ago and second in 2010, should be in the mix. Post Falls, led by Region I medalist Trevor Fedele’s 63 at Prairie Falls, finished just five shots behind the Vikings.

Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene finished 1-2 at the girls regional tournament and qualified for state. Post Falls’ Maddie Dodge returns to state after placing second last year. The 5A state tournaments are today and Tuesday at Pinecrest Golf Club in Idaho Falls.

In 4A, Moscow’s boys and girls captured regional titles. The Bears have won two straight girls state titles. Lakeland sophomore Derek Bayley was the boys regional medalist with a 72 at the University of Idaho course. State will be held today and Tuesday at Blackfoot Golf Club.
