Thanked Right-hander Kerry Wood was in a coat and tie rather than a baseball uniform as he stood at home plate at Wrigley Field on Saturday and thanked many people for his 14 years in the major leagues. Wood, who retired after Friday’s game, will likely join the Chicago Cubs in another role after taking some time off to spend with his family.

Injured Miami Marlins center fielder Emilio Bonifacio, who leads the majors in stolen bases, could be headed for the disabled list because of a sprained left thumb. Manager Ozzie Guillen says going on the DL is a possibility, but adds doctors said Bonifacio won’t need surgery.

• Kansas City Royals pitcher Everett Teaford was placed on the 15-day DL with a lower abdominal strain. The Royals recalled right-hander Nate Adcock from Omaha to start today against Arizona.

• Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa’s comeback from Tommy John surgery hit a speed bump when the Colorado Rockies decided to shut him down because of tightness in his left forearm.

Reacquired The Cubs reacquired catcher Koyie Hill in a deal with the Cincinnati Reds for cash considerations. The 33-year-old Hill returns to the Cubs after spending all or part of the past five seasons in the organization. He batted .208 with seven home runs and 63 RBIs in 252 games with the Cubs during his first stint.

Dismissed Air Force running back Asher Clark is no longer enrolled at the academy amid a newspaper report that he was caught up in an investigation into illegal drug use. Academy spokesman David Cannon says the Privacy Act precludes him from disclosing the reason for Clark’s dismissal that comes less than a week before graduation. Clark finished his career as the school’s second all-time leading rusher with 3,594 yards. He was selected to the Mountain West Conference second-team squad last season.

Replaced Brazil called up Manchester United right back Rafael to replace the injured Daniel Alves for upcoming friendly matches.
