Edith Rivera “Tatin” McCrea, age 95, passed away May 16, 2012 in Coeur d’Alene after living a long and active life.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1916, daughter of Pedro Amado Rivera and Mary Irvine Rivera, the youngest of five children, she attended Mary Washington College in Virginia and the U. of Puerto Rico.

In 1940 she married Bill McCrea of Coeur d’Alene while he was stationed in San Juan.

A military life full of travel ensued.

They were stationed at various stateside Army posts, separated by the war, and then assigned to Germany in 1946.

She created homes for the family in Virginia and Alabama, and then on to Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, and California.

After military retirement they continued to travel during Bill’s second career with The Asia Foundation, and spent several years in the Philippines.

After seeing the world, and missing children and grandchildren they retired to Hayden Lake.

After Bill’s death Tatin moved to Coeur d’Alene, where Tatin was active in First Presbyterian Church, the Art Club, P.E.O., and Hayden Lake Country Club.

She enjoyed golf and gardening and was always quick to point out the beauty of any scene.

Her bright smile and sweet personality will be missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. William S. McCrea and son, Scott McCrea.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol McCann and son-in-law, Tom of Huntington Beach; her son, Steve McCrea and daughter-in-law, Terri Porcarelli of Coeur d’Alene; grandchildren, Greg Hodgson and wife, Elizabeth of Las Vegas, Lisa Mase and great granddaughter, Lindsay Tatin Mase of Colorado Springs, Chris Porcarelli residing in Sweden, Brian McCrea of Las Vegas, Patrick McCrea and wife, Brittany, and Michael McCrea of Charleston, S.C.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 521 East Lakeside Ave, Coeur d’Alene with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements .
