Obituary: Schenk, Judene Rae

Judene Rae Schenk was born in Bowdle, SD, daughter of Walter and Lorine (Miller) Zabel.

She grew up in Selby, SD and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.

She began teaching kindergarten and 2nd grade in Rapid City, SD and also taught piano and organ privately.

She moved to Moscow, ID in 1972 where she began teaching dance and piano to children in her home and also worked as a secretary at the University of Idaho.

In 1974 she married John Schenk.

She continued to operate the popular “Judy’s Dance School” in Moscow until 1981.

After, she worked as a job service consultant and an employment interviewer for Job Service in Moscow and as a teacher’s aide for the Moscow School District until her husband retired from the University of Idaho in 1988.

They moved to Twin Lakes and Coeur d’Alene where Judy taught clog dance and line dance and her “North Ida-Ho-Down Cloggers” performing group entertained in the summer months.

They moved to Badger Lake, WA in 1995 and she continued teaching clog dance in Coeur d’Alene for a few years before retiring herself.

She then enjoyed traveling, gardening, landscaping, and home remodeling at their home on Badger Lake.
She is survived by her husband John; brother Dennis Zabel and sister Dianne Stroh of Selby, SD; daughter Lori Alexander of Vale, OR; son Gary Huber of Yokohama, Japan; daughter Lisa Larson of Greenville, SC; step son Jonathan Schenk of Dundee, OR; step daughter Cindy Schenk of Moscow, ID; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Cathy Ann Huber in infancy.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
