Obituary: Preston, Alice

PAQUETTE- PRESTON,
Alice

Alice Theresa Paquette Preston, age 86, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, in Spokane, WA, from congestive heart failure.

She was born on August 3, 1925, in North Providence, RI, to Raymond and Alice Paquette.

She is survived by a son, Donald Preston (Pamela), daughter, Deirdra Harms-Lutz (Jeff), a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Preston; grandchildren - David Lenz, Tracy Whelchel, Tamahine Lenz, Jerrod Preston, Mac Preston, and Paige Preston; 15 great-grandchildren; extended family, and many friends who were the family of her heart.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Frank Plum.
Alice worked as an administrative assistant in clinical and research laboratories at Johns Hopkins University, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, and Penn Presbyterian Hospital where she mentored many residents - and whipped them into shape when they needed it.

Upon retiring from Penn Presbyterian, she travelled the country with her sweetheart, Frank, and volunteered at North Penn VNA Hospice in Lansdale, PA, and at Christ’s Clinic in Spokane, WA.
Alice had a love of animals, nature, music and other cultures, and was a long time member of Sweet Adelines.

She was known and loved for her outrageous and often irreverent sense of humor, her entertaining stories of her experiences and adventures, and her tendency to give you her opinion in the time honored words of Soldiers, Sailors, and ex-Marines.

You never had to question where you stood with her.

She was proud of the fact that she lived her life mostly as she wanted to, and not as others thought she should .
A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.

Alice specifically requested that NO flowers be sent.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Corps, Defenders of Wildlife, St. Joseph’s Indian School, or Christ’s Clinic.
