Android dominates smartphone orders
NEW YORK – Google’s Android software for mobile devices was running on 75 percent of smartphones shipped in the third quarter, as the search company extended its lead over Apple, according to research firm IDC.
Apple’s iOS system, used in iPhones, was second with a market share of 15 percent.
Gains came largely at the expense of BlackBerry and Symbian phones, according to Thursday’s report from IDC.
“Android has been one of the primary growth engines of the smartphone market since it was launched in 2008,” said Ramon Llamas, a research manager for mobile phones at IDC. “In every year since then, Android has effectively outpaced the market and taken market share from the competition.”
Feds sue Senor Frog’s for sexual harassment
HONOLULU – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing the Senor Frog’s bar and restaurant chain, saying its CEO, other high-level executives and managers sexually harassed female employees at its now-closed Waikiki location.
Inappropriate and offensive sexual comments occurred on a daily basis, said the lawsuit.
Managers encouraged employees, and even directed at least two of them, to have sex with high-level executives when they visited Honolulu, the lawsuit said.
“One of the reasons we were so concerned about this case is we saw this harassing behavior permeated up to the most senior levels of management. That was a real problem and a real concern for us,” said Amrita Mallik, a senior trial attorney for the commission.
