Leach nears ‘line’

I have just finished reading coach Mike Leach’s most recent indictment of his football team (“Cougs search …” Nov. 5).

I’ve always felt that there is a fine line between being a top-notch motivator or being a bully. Coach Leach, it seems to me, lives either over, or way too close, to that line.

As a lifelong fan of eastern Washington high school and college sports, I was quite willing to give Coach Leach a couple of years to build a program with his own staff and recruits. In other words, as the movie line goes, he “had me at hello.”

After listening to him berate his team most weeks, I will, with eagerness, wait for “goodbye.” Three or four more wins per season won’t justify the “way” for me.
