LC’s Goodwin finishes second at Stanford
Lewis and Clark senior Sumner Goodwin finished in second place and the Tigers took seventh at the Stanford Invitational Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Goodwin completed the 5-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 9 seconds. Arcadia’s Estevan De La Rosa was first in 15:06. Arcadia won the team title.
LC’s Kyler Goins was 35th in 16:11 and Davis Mathieu was 61st in 16:29.
• Mead’s Andrew Gardner finished first, but it was the University boys who won the team title at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula.
Gardner finished the course in 14:25.9.
Daniel Brunner was the Titans’ top runner. He finished in 15:20.7 for sixth place. John Dressel took fourth place (14:51.8) for Mt. Spokane, which finished second in the team standings. Mead was third and Deer Park was seventh.
Deer Park’s Daniel Amann finished eighth in 15:28.1.
Bozeman won the girls team title. Gonzaga Prep was the top local team finisher at seventh.
East Valley’s Brittany Aguino took sixth place in 18:06.4.

Great Northern League: Laura Guido and Becky Birchett scored second-half goals to lift Pullman (9-1, 6-0) to a 2-0 win over host Cheney (3-6, 2-4). Dakota Wickard made five saves for the Greyhounds. … Clarkston (7-3, 4-2) scored three second-half goals and cruised past visiting Colville (1-7, 0-6) 4-0. Ryen Nicholas opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. Leah Edens scored in the 41st minute and Kristina Sly made it 3-0 with her 48th-minute goal. A hand ball in the box set the Bantams up with a penalty kick, which Teresa Eggleston knocked in to cap the scoring. … East Valley’s red-hot offense stayed that way in a 12-0 win over visiting Deer Park (2-7, 1-5). The Knights (4-5, 3-3) got two goals and an assist from Sydney Sol and two late goals by Britne Barbieri. Kendra Morsheck had four assists for East Valley, which has scored 23 goals in its past three matches.
• Inland Empire League 5A: Both defenses stepped up as Lake City and Lewiston played to a scoreless tie in Coeur d’Alene.
Boys soccer
Intermountain League: Brett Dickman’s penalty-kick goal in the 80th minute helped St. Maries (7-5-1, 3-1-1) earn a 1-1 draw with visiting Bonners Ferry (5-5-2, 4-0-1). Jake Tremble scored the Badgers’ goal in the 44th minute.
Volleyball
Great Northern League: Brittani Harvey had 14 kills and Jolene Herzog had 33 assists and four aces as Pullman (4-2) held on late and edged host Cheney (3-3) in five sets. Scores were 29-27, 25-19, 16-25, 22-25, 15-13. Ashley Seiler had 19 digs and three blocks and Kinsey Pease had 22 assists, six aces and three blocks for the Blackhawks. … Callie Hanson dished out 40 assists and had five aces as East Valley (5-1) eased past Deer Park (1-5) 25-21, 25-6, 25-21 at East Valley. Elisha Allred had a match-high 10 kills and Sam Brady had 12 kills for the Knights. … Jacy Vining had 14 digs and nine kills as Colville (6-0) swept Clarkston (1-5) in Clarkston. Scores were 25-13, 25-7, 25-13. Joellee Buckner added five aces for the Indians.
