Yale stuns Quinnipiac to win 1st title

College hockey: Jeff Malcolm stopped 36 shots and Yale won its first NCAA hockey championship with a 4-0 victory over top-seeded Quinnipiac on Saturday night in Pittsburgh.

Clinton Bourbonais, Charles Orzetti, Andrew Miller and Jesse Root scored for the Bulldogs, who avenged three earlier losses to the Connecticut-rival Bobcats this season by stunning the nation’s No. 1 team on the biggest stage of all.

Yale became the first ECAC team since Harvard in 1989 to capture the national title.

Celtics lock up seventh seed in East

NBA: Courtney Lee scored 20 points and Jeff Green added 17 as the Boston Celtics cruised to a 120-88 victory over the Orlando Magic in Orlando, Fla.

The win locked up the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference for Boston, which never trailed in winning its eighth straight over Orlando.

• Bucks’ road woes continue: Kemba Walker had 21 points, Josh McRoberts nearly had a triple-double and the Charlotte Bobcats handed the Milwaukee Bucks their ninth straight road loss, 95-85 in Charlotte, N.C.

The loss locks the Bucks into eighth place in the Eastern Conference, meaning they’ll draw the defending champion Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs.

McRoberts had 18 points, nine rebounds and a career-high nine assists.

• Clippers edge Grizzlies: Chris Paul hit a free throw with 18.3 seconds left, and the Los Angeles Clippers edged the host Memphis Grizzlies 91-87 in a preview of a possible first-round playoff series.

The Clippers took the season series 3-1 for what could be a crucial tiebreaker giving L.A. home-court advantage in the postseason even though the teams are tied at 54-26. That puts them both one-half game behind Denver for the No. 3 seed in the West.

Marc Gasol had 18 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists for Memphis.

• Rubio sparks Timberwolves: Ricky Rubio had a career-high 24 points, 10 assists and five steals to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 105-93 victory over the Phoenix Suns in Minneapolis.

Capitals blow big lead, win in overtime

NHL: The Washington Capitals blew a four-goal lead before Mike Green scored a power-play goal at 2:59 of overtime, extending the team’s winning streak to seven games with a 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Washington.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 27th goal to move ahead in the NHL’s goal-scoring race.

• Rangers win in OT: Defenseman Dan Girardi scored 3:11 into overtime to give the visiting New York Rangers a stirring 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders in Uniondale, N.Y.

The Rangers are eighth in the Eastern Conference playoff race, one point behind the Islanders. The Rangers lead ninth-place Winnipeg by two points with seven games left.

• Morrow carries Penguins: Brenden Morrow scored two goals to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Fla.

Kris Letang also scored for Pittsburgh and Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves. Morrow also had an assist.

• Leafs rout Price, Canadiens: The Toronto Maple Leafs scored four goals on their first five shots, chased Montreal goalie Carey Price midway through the first period and beat the Canadiens 5-1 in Toronto.

Montreal remained one point ahead of Boston for the Northeast Division lead and the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

• Hurricanes end skid: Jiri Tlusty scored two goals and the Carolina Hurricanes ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins in Raleigh, N.C.

• Avalanche rally late: Jan Hejda scored with 7.6 seconds remaining and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 24 shots, helping the Colorado Avalanche rally for a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks in Denver.

The Avalanche beat the Canucks for the first time since Jan. 18, 2011.

• Sabres blank Flyers: Jhonas Enroth stopped 29 shots to help the Buffalo Sabres remain on the fringe of the playoff race with a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Buffalo, N.Y.

Isner, Almagro reach U.S. Clay Court final

Miscellany: John Isner got his big serve working after a slow start to reach the final of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, beating defending champion Juan Monaco of Spain 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in Houston.

The fifth-seeded American will face Nicolas Almagro, the top-seeded Spaniard who needed only 58 minutes to beat American wild-card Rhyne Williams 6-2, 6-1.

• Java’s War victorious: Java’s War edged Palace Malice by a neck to win the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., and solidify his credentials for the Kentucky Derby.

• Overanalyze charges to victory: Overanalyze made a three-time winner out of trainer Todd Pletcher at the Arkansas Derby in Hot Springs.

The colt won the $1 million race by 4 1/4 lengths over Frac Daddy.

• Rigondeaux retains title: Guillermo Rigondeaux retained his WBA super bantamweight boxing championship and added the WBO super bantamweight belt, unanimously outpointing Nonito Donaire in New York.
