Obituary: Kalin, Joan Edith

KALIN, JOAN EDITH 1916-2013 Joan Eidth Kalin passed away in Portland, OR on January 15, 2013, surrounded by family.

A friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she is remembered for her intel-ligence, humor and charm, devotion to education, and a sense of elegance.

Always an educator, she began her career teaching in Spokane schools, eventually teaching at the Davis School for the Deaf for many years.

Preceding this, she had operated her own Kindergarten for some time.

She earned an MS in Education at EWU.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Kalin who was a CPA in Spokane.

She is survived by her son, Falken Forshaw (Susan J. Russell); two grandchildren, Harper and Avalon Kalin, and two great-grandchildren, Edie and Irene McDaniel.
