Freeman falls in State A title game
Brenden Ecklebarger had two hits and two RBIs to back his seven strong innings on the mound as Kenmore raced past Freeman 13-2 in the State A American Legion championship game Wednesday in Olympia.
Freeman dug itself into a big hole in the first inning, allowing four runs after committing two errors. Freeman finished the game with six errors behind starter Jake Phipps and reliever Ian Johnston.
Freeman was able to pull back two runs in the third behind McCabe Cottrell’s double to make the score 5-2. However, Kenmore added three in the fourth to put the game away.
Cottrell, who allowed one earned run in 15 2/3 innings, was named Pitcher of the Tournament.
Braves host tryout camp
The Spokane Braves junior hockey team, members of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, will hold their main tryout camp this weekend at the Eagles-Ice-Arena.
Players from eight states and Canada will be vying for spots on the team for the upcoming season.
The general public is welcome and admission is free. There will be four games Friday, starting at 12:30 p.m. The first of four Saturday games starts at 10:30 a.m. The Blue/White game will be Sunday at 12:45 p.m.
Spike & Dig this weekend
Spokane Spike & Dig will be celebrating its 22nd anniversary on Saturday with matches from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dwight Merkel Complex. The competition concludes Sunday with championship games in the afternoon.
Spike & Dig is the largest 6-on-6 volleyball tournament in the Northwest.
