The 15th Annual “8 Lakes Leg Aches Bike Ride” – Saturday participants can choose either a 15-mile, 30-mile, 45-mile or 75-mile ride touring scenic landscapes between Spokane, Medical Lake and Cheney. Enjoy coffee at the starting line at the Group Health office on Sunset hill, nibble cookies at stops along the way and end the ride with food, entertainment and ice cream. Co-sponsored by Group Health and Lutheran Community Services Northwest. Proceeds benefit abused/neglected children and their families through the services at Lutheran community Services Sexual Assault & Family Trauma Response Center (SAFeT). $45/ride only, add $10 for shirt; $65/ride, shirt and socks; $185/ride, shirt and jersey. Developing Heart-strength with Meditation: Buddhist Meditation Class – Weekly series runs Aug. 12-Sept. 16, 6:30-8 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive. Presented by Tibetan Buddhist nuns from Sravasti Abbey monastery near Newport. The class teaches Buddhist meditations for developing love and compassion and focuses on the “six far-reaching practices”– generosity, ethical conduct, fortitude, joyous effort, concentration and wisdom.
