Obituary: Hoover, Robert Dean
He attended Irving Elementary and Lewis and Clark High School; then graduated in 1945.
During his teens, he competed in track and field, and boxing where he won a Golden Gloves Tournament in Yakima, WA.
He joined the military immediately upon graduation and went straight into the Navy.
Before serving overseas, he came home on leave and married his high school sweetheart, Lillian R. Womach, on November 3, 1945.
After the war, Bob and Lillian attended Northwest Bible College in Kirkland, WA.
When he had completed a degree in theological studies and graduated, they moved back to Spokane to live and raise their family of three children.
They enjoyed taking time for family and often went camping, swimming and fishing together.
Bob worked in Sales most of those years.
He was a devout Christian and his greatest goal was to honor God and serve Christ.
He used his gift of teaching faithfully at Glad Tidings Assembly of God church as a lay minister where he and Lillian have been members for over fifty years.
He often served as a Deacon and was a true leader, supporting and encouraging others in their faith in God’s Word.
Glad Tiding’s appointed Bob with an honorary elder position and was asked countless times to preach and pray with people.
Bob also enjoyed many sports including baseball, football and golf.
He especially enjoyed golfing with his wife, Lillian.
In his later years, Bob worked for Holy Cross Cemetery from 1991 to 2006; he also enjoyed leading occasional services there.
After retiring, he continued to work on other jobs and always remained active, gardening at their home.
On August 1, 2013, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
We will miss his strength of character and his love in our daily lives.
Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian Hoover, Spokane; daughter Kathie and Clint Nelson of Spokane; son Bob B. Hoover of Los Angeles; and daughter Becky and Chico Montoya and their child Riley Rose and foster children Jacyndah and Atticuss of Spokane.
Children and spouses of Kathie and Clint: Chris Nelson and Jaime, (great-grandchildren Ryeder, Cohl, Brody and Kael), Chad Nelson and Sajda, Kayleen Nelson and Kylo Konechny.
He is also survived by his sister, Pat Daighnault, of Diamond Lake, WA.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wes Hoover.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 25, 3:00 PM at Glad Tidings Assembly of God church, 4224 E. 4th Ave. in Spokane.
A celebration of his life will follow after the service, in the fellowship hall.
