Obituary: Schultz, Helen Marie

Age 84

SCHULTZ, Helen Marie Helen Marie Schultz was born in Del Norte, Colorado on July 10, 1929 to Frank Celestino Sierra and Columbia Imogene (Earl) Sierra.

She grew up in Silverton, CO., and she attended Silverton High School, where she had many friends.

Her lifelong, best friend was Lucy “Pinky” Giacomelli.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, January 2010.

Her younger brother, Norman passed away in October, 2012.

Both parents passed away several years ago.

She is survived by Phyllis (Bill) Bongers, sister, Marie Sierra (Norman), sister-in-law, Tiffany (Erik) Miller, niece, Chris Miller, great-nephew, Shawn (Brandi) Bongers, Nephew, Garrett Bongers, great-nephew, Kathy Webb, niece, Gabrielle Webb, great-niece, Jonathan Webb, great-nephew, Anthony (Adrienne) Sierra, nephew, Cecilia Sierra, great-niece, Lillian Sierra, great-niece.

She is also survived by members of the Schultz family, including Donna (Paul) Senkler, sister-in-law, Ruth, deceased, (Al) Hardt, sister-in-law, Lenore, deceased, (Clarence) Hardt, sister-in-law, Priscilla (Richard) Derr, step-daughter, Matthew (Mara) Bischoff, step-grandchild, Leslie (Joseph) Hughes, step-grandchild, Kathleen Dechand, step-daughter, Andy (Michelle) step-grandchild, Brenda (Sean) Dechand, step-grandchild, Wayne deceased, (Katie) Schultz, step-son, Pascia (Darrin) Backman, step-grandchild.

There is also a total of eight great-step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Helen lived in Spokane for several years before she moved to Harrington, WA, to become a housekeeper for Mike Korby and his son, Gene.

Helen and Melvin met and were married a couple of years later and lived in Harrington where Melvin farmed for many years.

Helen and Melvin loved to fish and they had many wonderful fishing outings at lakes near Harrington.

Helen loved to follow college basketball, and was always happy when Gonzaga University was destined to go to the Sweet 16.

She was also an avid supporter of Harrington’s sports teams.

Helen had many wonderful friends in Harrington and Spokane.

She worked on many community projects…and she also loved being involved in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

For the last three years Helen has been living at the Gardens Nursing Home in Spokane Valley, due to poor health, where she passed away on July 28th.

Our family would like to thank the Gardens’ staff for taking such good care of Helen during her time there.
