Gaels beat Pacific Tigers
All five starters scored in double figures as Saint Mary’s ruined Pacific’s debut in the West Coast Conference with an 88-80 men’s basketball win Monday in Stockton, Calif.
Beau Levesque led the Gaels (10-3) with 18 points. James Walker III, Stephen Holt and Kerry Carter had 15 each and Brad Waldow added 14.
Andrew Bock had 23 for Pacific (9-3) and Sama Taku added 17.
The Gaels were without head coach Randy Bennett, who began serving a five-game suspension. Eran Ganot is the interim coach.
Santa Clara 76, Portland 68: Evan Roquemore, Brandon Clark and Jared Brownridge each scored 20 for Santa Clara (8-7, 1-1) in a victory at Portland.
Thomas Van der Mars led the Pilots (8-6, 0-2) with 23 points.
Loyola Marymount 65, San Diego 62: Evan Payne scored 16 points as the Lions held on for a victory over the Torreros in Los Angeles.
Gabe Levin added 12 points for the Lions (10-4, 2-0 WCC).
Johnny Dee had a hot night for San Diego (9-6, 0-2), making 6 of 10 attempts beyond the arc for 28 points.
Pepperdine 80: BYU 74: Malcolm Brooks scored 20 of his career-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Waves (9-5, 2-0) past the Cougars in Malibu, Calif. Tyler Haws scored 20 for BYU, which lost its fourth in a row, its first such streak since coach Dave Rose took the reins of the program.
