Who’s the Worst Backseat Driver?
Men or women? Moms or dads?
This should come as absolutely no shock to seasoned couples, but a recent survey found that one’s spouse is likely to be a major source of irritation during the course of a summer road trip.
According to a survey of 500 motorists commissioned by Insurance.com, 34 percent of women cited their husbands as being the worst backseat drivers, while 40 percent of men said the same thing about their wives. Second to spouses, 18 percent of women found their mothers to be the most intrusive passengers, while 17 percent of men blamed their friends. Providing unsolicited comments on one’s driving speed, giving directions and talking too much were cited as being among the most heinous passenger offenses.
Perhaps surprisingly, children were rated among the lowest on the scale of driver exasperation, with only three percent of motorists finding their teenage sons or daughters to be annoying on an extended journey. Must be all that texting.
