Announced Guard Katin Reinhardt has transferred from UNLV to Southern California, closer to his hometown of Dana Point. New USC coach Andy Enfield announced the move Tuesday. Reinhardt, a sophomore, will have to sit out the 2013-14 season under NCAA rules. He averaged 10.1 points with the Runnin’ Rebels.
• Former NHL tough guy Georges Laraque is going into politics. Laraque announced that he would campaign for a seat from Montreal in Canada’s House of Commons. Laraque racked up 1,126 penalty minutes for an NHL career in which he was better known for his left jab than for his wrist shot. He will represent the Green Party.
• Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, will take part in the torch relay leading to next year’s Winter Games in Sochi. The Sochi Games will take place from Feb. 7-23.
Traded The Milwaukee Bucks traded forward Luc Mbah a Moute to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for a 2016 second-round draft pick. The 6-foot-8, 230-pound has averaged 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds in 25.1 minutes per game in his career.
Agreed Free agent guard Devin Harris is headed back to the Dallas Mavericks, nine years after starting his career with them as a high draft pick. The 30-year-old Harris averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 assists in Atlanta last season.
• The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a $3.5 million, two-year contract with Luigi Datome. The 25-year-old Datome is from Italy.
• The Golden State Warriors have reached agreements with guard Toney Douglas and center Jermaine O’Neal on free agent deals. Douglas played for the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings last season, averaging 7.5 points and 2.1 assists in 18.1 minutes per game. The Warriors are hoping the 34-year-old O’Neal can be a reliable backup to Andrew Bogut.
Dismissed Virginia Tech tailback Michael Holmes has been kicked out of school after being convicted of assault and battery. The 20-year-old sophomore from Harrisonburg, Va., started five games last season, rushing for 280 yards and four touchdowns.
