GM Gives New-Car Buyers Free Maintenance

Jim Gorzelany CTW Features
A perk often reserved for buyers of expensive luxury cars, General Motors recently announced it would be including free maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) with all of its 2014 Chevrolet, Buick and GMC models. Cadillac owners already receive complimentary maintenance for four years or 50,000 miles. Other automakers that currently offer gratis service programs include BMW, Jaguar, Volvo and Volkswagen For most cars this includes an oil and filter change, tire rotation and a 27-point vehicle inspection and covers up to four visits over the first 24 months of ownership. There are a few exceptions, however, depending on a given vehicle’s requirements. For example, electric models, like the new Chevrolet Spark EV don’t need oil changes, and the sports cars like the Chevrolet Corvette that run on high-performance tires don’t recommend rotation. The program is fully transferable to subsequent owners and applies to early-release 2014 models already purchased before the program was initiated in June.
