Excuses, Excuses

Most of us have been pulled over by a police officer for committing a traffic violation at least once in our lives, and it’s likely we’ve tried to talk our way out of getting a ticket. Most drivers in that situation simply plead ignorance, according to a survey conducted for Insurance.com in Foster City, Calif. “By now, police officers can probably finish peoples’ sentences,” says the website’s managing editor Michelle Megna. “I wonder if they wouldn’t appreciate a little dog-ate-my-homework creativity.” Here are the 10 most-used excuses given to traffic cops as determined by the “Ticketmasters” survey: 1. I couldn’t see the sign. 2. I’m unfamiliar with the roads. 3. I didn’t know it was broken. 4. Everyone else was doing it. 5. I’m having an emergency. 6. I missed my turn/exit. 7. I had to go to the bathroom. 8. I didn’t do anything dangerous. 9. I was on my way to an emergency. 10. My GPS said to turn there.
