Obituary: Cloward, Alice Joyce
Age 81
Joyce, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Salt Lake City, UT on August 23, 1931, to Andrew B. Oswald and Lucile Margetts.
Joyce studied Human Resources and Business at the University of Utah.
She married Robert “Bob” Lamar Cloward on December 28, 1950, her mother’s birthday.
They were later sealed in the Bellevue, Washington Temple on June 8, 1984.
While living in Salt Lake City, Joyce and Bob were blessed with two children, a son and a daughter.
They moved to Spokane in 1960 where they completed their family with the birth of their second daughter.
Her greatest loves were family, church, music and chocolate.
She was a working mother, Brownie Troop leader, often sponsored the kids’ slumber parties, shuttled kids to various events, made any holiday a grand occasion and allowed the strays her children brought home to become loved family pets.
Joyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served as a teacher, a music conductor, Relief Society President, and visiting teacher.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bob.
She is survived by her brother, Andrew B. Oswald, Jr.; her children and their spouses, Randall and Jan Cloward of Deer Park, WA, Bobbette and Richard Laurent of Poulsbo, WA, and Pamela Cloward Markle of Richland, WA, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two grand beagles and many friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
The family thanks the staff of Riverside Care Center for their compassionate and excellent care of Joyce and for helping the family navigate through the difficulties of progressive dementia.
