In brief: Opening on Fire District 8 board of commissioners

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane County Fire District 8 is accepting applications from residents interested in filling a vacant seat on the board of fire commissioners created by the resignation of Greg Hesse. Applicants must live within the district, which stretches across the southern borders of Spokane and Spokane Valley.

Those interested in the position must submit a letter of interest by 4:30 p.m. on June 21 to Commissioner Lee Boling at lboling@scfd8.org or P.O. Box 345, Valleyford, Wash., 99036-0345. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for June 26.

Town hall meeting with Knezovich Wednesday

ROCKFORD – Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich will host a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McIntosh Grange in Rockford.

All area residents are invited to attend. There will be time for questions.

The grange is located at 319 S. First St. in Rockford.

Join Parade of Paws to benefit Humane Society

SPOKANE COUNTY – Today is the 10th annual Parade of Paws to benefit the Spokane Humane Society. People are invited to bring their dogs on walks of either two or four miles starting at 10 a.m. at the Humane Society facility at 6607 N. Havana St.

Francis Avenue is under construction west of Market. The best route to the facility is to head north on Freya and then take a right on Francis to Havana.

More than 1,000 people are expected to collect pledges and walk. Those without dogs are welcome to participate as well. There will be food and vendors on site from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The annual event is the society’s largest fundraiser.

U-Hi plans all-class reunion June 22

SPOKANE VALLEY – Alumni of University High School will present an all-class reunion June 22 at Arbor Crest Winery, 4705 N. Fruit Hill Road, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $60 if purchased before Friday, or $75 after Friday or at the door. Dinner is included and there will be a no-host bar. The event will include dancing and classmates are encouraged to bring in old or new photos, old yearbooks or any other mementos.

The reunion includes a casual cocktail social June 21 at Sullivan Scoreboard, 205 N. Sullivan Road, at 8 p.m., and a tour of University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 22.
